We briefly discussed in class how digital media and technology is the new paperback book. Not necessarily as much now, but usually classrooms were provided with books that were updated every 5-10 years. I remember when textbooks still didn't have a section over September 11 and it was years after. Such a critical and impacting event was being left out of lessons and classrooms. With the resources that we are now provided with, such as the internet, videos, pictures, and so on, we are able to stay updated on events and developments in learning. It allows us to learn in the present, the "now", instead of the past, which could even mean yesterday.
As an education major, I have heard many debates on whether or not digital media should be implemented more into lessons and classrooms. I am a strong supporter of bringing media into the classrooms and will be doing so in the future. However, there are many people out there that would argue against it. Through field experiences, I have witnessed classrooms that work straight from textbooks and classes that provide students with computers and access to the internet. Our generation has slowly witnessed the increase of technology and media being brought into the classrooms. Assuming that you have experienced both, what are your thoughts and ideas of digital media slowly taking over classrooms and replacing textbooks?
